Written by eminent writer Javed Siddiqi and Directed by Salim Arif ,GUDAMBA is a heart- warming monologue that keeps the audience at the edge of their seats throughout the play. The story revolves around an ambitious young girl Amina (Lubna Salim) who gets married and thinks that her man of dreams is God’s answer to her prayers.
Living as a Bahu in an old sprawling joint family house with its complicated domestic politics, Amina saunters her way through with comic effervescence and self-deprecating humour. Peppered by her insightful and, often, witty observations on everything from marriage, to her children, in-laws, relatives and society among others, the play shows her as a strong woman with a mind of her own.

Javed Siddiqi is a Hindi and Urdu screenwriter, dialogue writer and playwright from India. He has written over 100 storylines, screenplays and dialogues. During his career, Siddiqui has collaborated with some of India's most prominent filmmakers, from independent directors like Satyajit Ray and Shyam Benegal to commercial directors like Yash Chopra and Subhash Ghai. He has become an integral part of Indian cinema, in both commercial and art cinema fields. He started his career as a dialogue writer in Satyajit Ray's Shatranj Ke Khiladi in 1977. Since then, he has been highly regarded for his works in different genres of films like Umrao Jaan, Mammo, Fiza, Zubeidaa and Tehzeeb; as well as commercial hits, such as Baazigar, Darr, Yeh Dillagi, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Raja Hindustani, Pardes, Chori Chori Chupke Chupke and Koi... Mil Gaya. Siddiqui has won two Filmfare Awards, two Star Screen Awards and one BFJA Award. His play Tumhari Amrita , with only two actors (Shabana Azmi and Farooq Shaikh) reading out letters to each other, became a critical success. This was followed by Saalgirah, starring actor couple Kirron Kher and Anupam Kher, a play dealing with the complexity of divorce in modern urban life.Over the years he has written numerous plays, including Begum Jaan, Aap Ki Soniya,Hum Safar and Kacche Lamhe. Gudamba is his latest play in the form of a monologue.

Gudamba is her latest offering on stage. Lubna has been given the Habib Tanvir Samman for 2019, Inquilab Award for Entertainement 2017 and Achievers Award 2012 for her contribution to Theatre.
Salim Arif : Recently bestowed with UP Sangeet Natak Akademy Award for his contribution to Theatre Stage Direction, Salim Arif is an illustrious alumnus of National School of Drama, New Delhi. A very well-known name in the field of Indian Theatre and Films, he is currently the Head of Department of Cultural Studies in Whistling Woods International, Mumbai, Asia’s leading Film School. He was awarded a NSD fellowship to work on the subject of Interaction between Traditional and contemporary Indian theatre with reference to the works of Habib Tanvir, B.V.Karanth, Ratan Thiyam and K.N.Panikker.
Innovative in approach, Salim Arif has directed plays like Aapki Soniya, Ghalibnaama, Kharaashein, Taj Mahal Ka Tender, Kaifi Saab, Peele Patton Ka Ban, Dil Chahta Hai, Shyam Rang, Agar Aur Magar, Bayaane Ghalib, Rakt Kalyan, Parwaaze Bayaan Aur, KachcheLamhe, Atthanniyaan, Lakeerein,Chaurangi, Hum-Safar,Sunte Ho,Arre O Henry, Manto Mantra, Paansa, Gogli Jhanak Jhayein, Tajmahal Ka Udghatan, Nagar ji ki Nagri, Pinnochio, Chakkar Chalaaye Ghanchakkar etc.These plays have made him one of the most exciting and
popular director on Hindi theatre scene in India and abroad. His plays have been staged
extensively in India and abroad.
Besides Theatre, Shyam Benegal’s Bharat Ek Khoj, Gulzar’s Mirza Ghalib, Dr.Chandraprakash Dwedi’s Chanakya got him International recognition as a Period Film Designer of substance. Nirja Guleri’s Chandrakanta , Ketan Mehta’s Sardar Patel,Gulzar’s Maachis and Hu-Tu-Tu , Govind Nihalani’s Takshak and Anil Sharma’s Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo are his other films as a Designer. He has been a consultant for period details in Anil Sharma’s Gadar and Mani Ratnam’s Guru.
He is on the visiting faculty of several prestigious institutions including National School of Drama, New Delhi, Film and Television Institute of India,Pune, Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute,Kolkata, BNA, Lucknow,Academy of Dramatic Arts,Mumbai University, MPSD Bhopal, National Institute of Fashion Technology, Mumbai and National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. He is also a resource person for Sangeet Natak Akademy,New Delhi. His several Awards include Habib Tanvir Rang Samman by Iftikhar Academy,Bhopal.(M.P.), the prestigious Vishwa Hindi Akademy’s Hindi Sewa Samman and Urdu Adab Award of U.P.Hindi- Urdu Award Committee for his contribution in Theatre.
